It all started on the 21st of July 2016 at our regular visit to the vet for dog food when we laid our eyes on the most precious little being. The Westville Veterinary Hospital had taken care of this little puppy a week before we adopted her. On this day our lives changed. Our eyes opened up to the grotesque reality and we became aware of how innocent animals were victims of torture, abuse, neglect and mistreatment.
Our conscious was awakened and we realised that we had been living in a cocoon.
The second major turning point in our lives happened one night in Umhlatuzana while we were driving home. We spotted a tiny black kitten near the edge of the road and immediately turned back to rescue her. She was terrified and tried to fight us off, but we refused to leave her behind to fend for herself.
That night, we kept a close watch over her as she cried endlessly. The next morning, we took her to the vet, hoping to get her the care she needed. After waiting anxiously, the nurse informed us that the kitten had snuffles, which they claimed was incurable. Instead of treating her, they refused to return her to us. Moments later, we were devastated to learn that they had put her down—without our consent. The nurse justified their actions by saying she would have infected other animals at the clinic.
The pain of losing our baby, Angel, stayed with us for a long time. But from that heartbreak grew an even stronger determination to help as many unwanted, unloved, and abused animals as possible. We knew then that making a difference in their lives was our true purpose.
That's when our mission to save innocent lives began.
